About

My husband came home with a full box, A BOX, of old recipes from an estate sale he had spent a day at.  Angry didn’t quite define the sudden rush of adrenaline searing through my veins.  Yes, I know my husband loves a good bargain.  His stockpiles of items residing in our outdoor shed and spilling into the nearby barn speak volumes of his interest for other people’s junk.  Even the auctioneers shift their attention toward him on the cases unable to receive a bid.  But old recipes?  What was I supposed to do with these?  I had recipes, the internet is filled with recipes.  I’d obviously have to wait until he forgot about his purchase to throw them out.  In the meantime I sorted through the box and pulled out a few to make it look like his good intent was worthwhile.  Most of the recipe books in the box were published cookbooks copyrighted from the late 1940’s and early 50’s.  Interesting, but not intriguing enough to make me fully appreciate at the time the gems I was holding.

Fast forward a few years and a few more auctions, and that stockpile of recipes has grown.  From cookbooks to recipe cards to simple scribbles on a convenient piece of paper.  I am blessed to have a wonderful collection of recipes dating back into WWII times and depicting such events in their titles and ingredient lists.  Recipes seldom found online.  Recipes handed down from generation to generation.  My husband was wiser than I gave him credit for.  So thank you Dear for these precious gifts and the ability to share these jewels with others!

In this blog I’d like to share with you the experience of recipes Scribbled in Thyme.  Trying recipes I’ve found and sharing the experience for others to try too.
